Rebecca Hon: Two Cities One Tale
Aug 24, 2024 - Aug 28, 2024
Tenri Cultural Institute is excited to present Two Cities One Tale, a solo exhibition featuring a curated selection of works by Hong Kong-based visual artist Rebecca Hon. This exhibition, curated by Tzu-Ying (Naomi) Chan, showcases Hon’s diverse artistic practice, encompassing drawing, painting, and mixed media installation. Two Cities One Tale delves into the intricate urban landscapes of Hong Kong and New York City, highlighting their vibrant multicultural nature and the continual evolution of their social contexts and structures.
Sponsored by United Overseas Bank (UOB) and supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC), the exhibition illustrates the innovative fusion of traditional Chinese ink art with modern technology. It explores how these elements converge to create a dynamic and contemporary artistic expression that reflects the uniqueness of both cities’ urban scenery.
Featuring works created in Hong Kong as well as during Hon’s residency at Flux Factory in New York City, the exhibition juxtaposes a compelling connection between these two bustling metropolises. Through her art, Hon bridges the distinctive characteristics of each city—ranging from Hong Kong’s densely layered architectural forms and rich cultural heritage to New York’s iconic skyline and diverse social dynamics. Two Cities One Tale reinterprets Hong Kong’s evolving urban landscape while celebrating the intersection of traditional and contemporary aesthetics, offering a nuanced perspective on change and identity in these global cities.
